Dr. Rusty Bates has over 30 years of experience as a physician, and over 20 years of experience in correctional medicine and medical management. He is licensed to practice medicine in Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee, is a Certified Correctional Health Professional, a Certified Physician Executive and a Certified Professional in Health Information and Management Systems. Dr. Bates is a member of the American College of Correctional Physicians and served for ten years on the Alabama Medical Licensure Commission. He received his BA in mathematics and his MD from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and served his residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. He also holds a Masters in Medical Management degree from the Hines School of Public Policy at Carnegie-Mellon University. In 2005 he founded a medical management company which was recognized in 2017 as the 5th fastest growing company in Birmingham.
